Terms and licenses

Last updated 14 October 2026

These terms cover the DeckSmith website, the generator, the firmware and the control app. DeckSmith is run by Alex Ciobanu, a private individual in Romania (hello@decksmith3d.com). By creating an account or activating a key you agree to them. If you buy as a consumer, nothing here takes away rights that consumer law gives you.

What DeckSmith is

DeckSmith is software that designs the printed parts of a macro keypad (a "deck") and runs it once built. We do not sell electronics or printed parts. You print the parts and buy the components yourself; the parts list links to shops we do not run and are not paid by.

Plans

PlanYou may
Free demoUse the generator in the browser and see everything, without downloading files.
MakerDownload the files for any design, print and build decks for yourself, and give them to friends and family. Not for selling.
CommercialEverything in Maker, plus sell decks you printed and assembled yourself, in any number.

No plan lets you resell or share access keys or your account, sell or publish the downloaded files (for example as an STL pack), or copy the generator. The firmware and the control app may be installed on any deck you build under your plan.

Access keys

Payments and refunds

When you buy a key directly from us, the seller of record named at checkout handles the payment and any VAT. As an EU consumer you have 14 days to withdraw from the purchase. Because DeckSmith is digital content, that right ends once you activate the key and so start using it; checkout asks you to agree to this. Keys you have not activated can be refunded within 14 days of purchase: write to us from the email you bought with.

Keys received as a crowdfunding reward follow the campaign platform's terms for refunds.

Building the hardware

Soldering, wiring and USB devices carry ordinary risks. Follow the guide, use parts from the list, and never connect anything to mains power. We check the designs carefully, but we cannot be responsible for how a deck is printed, wired or used. Within what the law allows, DeckSmith is provided as it is, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the last 12 months. This does not limit liability for intent, gross negligence or anything the law does not allow us to exclude.

Your account

Keep your password to yourself. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms, after telling you why when we can. You can ask us to delete your account at any time.

Changes and law

If these terms change in a way that matters, account holders get an email at least 30 days before. Romanian law applies; as a consumer you may also rely on the law of the EU country where you live and use its courts.
